How to land sponsors as a fitness athlete

You're fit, you're knowledgeable, and you KNOW fitness is your destiny. There's only one problem- It's expensive and the payout is rarely worth it. Being amazing and fit unfortunately won't pay the bills without strategic effort. As a fitness athlete you are a business owner. Your product is your body and your business is your mind. You have to be smart and marketable too! Here are three tips to help you get the ball rolling so you can start landing sponsorships!

1. Grow your social media audience

There's good news and there's the bad news. Social media has given the athletes a way to become fit and famous in ways that were not accessible before. The bad news? It's saturated and it's a lot of work! Social media is it's own full-time job. Make sure you're creating VALUABLE content that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and dedicate the time. Now, more than ever- businesses heavily rely on social media and they are tapping into the influencer market to make more sales. Your dream sponsor will be looking to see if your account has the potential to bring in sales. This doesn't mean you need to have 100,000 followers. Focus on creating a relevant audience in the fitness industry and put your best foot forward with content that makes you look like a valuable content creator.

2. Meet sponsors in person

It's a widely known fact. People want to give money to people they like. Meeting sponsors in person can be the ticket to success. Rub some elbows with leaders in the fitness industry by attending a local fitness competition, wellness event, or convention. 3. Buy products

I know it sounds counter-productive. You want to be sponsored, you don't want to spend money on products. The problem is that brands are TIRED of people trying to get sponsored only to pay the bills. They want influencers that live and breathe their brand genuinely. Purchase affordable products from a few brands you love. You can reach out to them first to see if they will give you a discount for posting. Take some photos and tag them. Some brands might even repost you, which will help spike YOUR social numbers. Channel your inner entrepreneur and be strategic. Ask for a code to share with your followers and tell them you would love to help them sell some product. Start with small to medium sized brands to get some practice! Once you can show some sales and engagement surrounding the brand, present it to their social or marketing team for a bigger partnership!

Get out there and make your dreams come true!
